Ancestry Research Hints & Tips

The Top 5 Websites We Use

These are my top 5 websites that I use when researching my family tree, it is worth noting that Ancestry and Find My Past are both subscription services. However there are loads of other local websites available that provide great information as well, such as local councils, history groups and Facebook pages. The National Archives also allows you to download certain records for free if you register.

Making Your Tree Easier To Read

I do this by creating small thumbnail images to upload as profile pictures in my tree. These can be customised to suit whatever your needs are, I have used these only on my tree but it makes it so much easier to see quick facts on your tree.

Creating A Story

It is one thing to have your family tree online but one stumbling block is how do you display the whole story. I do this by documenting the whole line in a word document that can be easily read. That way you can include photos, certificates, maps etc. that help build up a more rounded story of your ancestors and how they lived.
